Ramadan Box Distribution

Arlington, Virginia

Global Shout was able to successfully deliver over 400 food boxes to newly arrived Afghan refugee families across the DMV area during the holy month of Ramadan

We are proud to announce that our team at Global Shout was able to successfully deliver over 400 food boxes to newly arrived Afghan refugee families across the DMV area during the holy month of Ramadan! Food boxes consisted of rice, beans, chick peas, oil, Afghan bread, spices, and other goods. Acknowledging the refugees current lack of transportation, we spent over 10 days delivering straight to their doorsteps as far and wide as Hyattsville, Maryland to Winchester, Virginia at all hours of the day. Tough job but we ensured that over 1000 refugees had sufficient food to break their fasts during their first Ramadan in their new homes!

Lack of employment and financial assistance from the federal government has led to high rates of food insecurity amongst the recent arrivals. Using their limited money to avoid eviction takes priority over using money to fill their fridge. Navigating the available social services and a new country while learning English is difficult all on its own, before adding the lack of support. We are here to ease their burden by providing services such as our food boxes, and will continue to do so after the month of Ramadan, as thousands more refugees are still on the way from camps in Qatar and Dubai, as well as from Afghanistan itself where flights have restarted. Please visit our donation page to give money to support this endeavor, or contact us to volunteer to deliver.

About Us

Global Shout is a U.S. based 501(c)3 tax-exempt (EIN#: 85-2382286) non-profit organization originally founded by students at Georgetown University in 2005 as Global S.H.O.U.T. (Students Helping Orphans in Underprivileged Territories). After an early focus strictly on the education and care of orphaned children in third world nations, the organization underwent a gradual shift in scope of humanitarian work, expanding beyond the university and dropping the acronym, with a full rebranding in 2019-20, now operating projects internationally of varying type and purpose.
